(Tuesday, 1st July 2008) eircom today announced that Ireland's leading retailer, Tesco has selected the company to implement a next generation telecommunications network. The five-year contract is valued at over Eur10 million.
As part of the deal, eircom will be the exclusive supplier of data and voice telecommunications services to Tesco Ireland and will migrate the retailer's existing systems onto a single IP network. eircom's next generation network will be based on the company's market leading MPLS platform "eircom Business IP" and will connect all of Tesco's 110 stores, Distribution Centres and Regional Offices to Tesco's Irish Head Office. The network will also seamlessly integrate with Tesco's global IP platform in the UK.
Tesco's current network capacity will be quadrupled to enable Tesco to avail of a range of innovative communication tools and technological solutions. VoIP will also be implemented on the network to deliver reduced voice costs and an innovative Mobile Gateway solution will also be established.

eircom was awarded the contract following a competitive tender process run by Tesco's global IT and Corporate Procurement team.
